John Stephens is a sarode, surbahar and sitar player based in Durham, North Carolina. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music (2006) and his MFA in North Indian music at CalArts (2011). John is a performing musician, recording artist, music educator and student of sarode maestro Ustad Aashish Khan, eldest son of Ustad Ali Akbar. John is the author of “The Microtones of Bharata’s Natyashastra,” Volume 6 of Analytical Approaches to World Music (aawmjournal.com). He also wrote the introduction and transcribed Aashish Khan’s music in Sangeet: Legacy of the Maihar Gharana.
A student of music since age 10, Daniel Chambo now specializes in creating music on bamboo flute, saxophone, and voice for ceremonial and intentional settings, where his deeply emotional and highly intuitive approach helps participants move deeper into their own authentic experience. His teachers in the field of North Indian Classical music and Naada Yoga (Yoga of Sound) Include Steve Gorn, K. Sridhar, Pt Tarun Bhattacharya, morning bird songs, mountain sunsets, leaves dancing in the wind, and countless other messengers of this world and beyond.
Pratap Mishra, one of the accomplished Tabla players of the highly respected Benares Gharana of Hindustani classical music, embarked on his musical journey at the tender age of five with the guidance of his father Pandit Gopal Misra Pandit Gopal Mishra a top-grade Tabla Player and an esteemed disciple of late Tabla Samrat Pandit Anokhe Lal Mishra ji. As a graded artist of All India Radio, Pratap Mishra has had the privilege of performing with renowned artists worldwide. His expertise lies in not only playing solo, but also seamlessly accompanying various instruments and vocal styles. Moreover, he has successfully trained numerous students who have gone on to become skilled tabla players, making him an important contributor to propagating this beautiful art form.
